How to make your lipstick last longer
03.11.2021
Whether you have a hot date coming up or you’re just sick of losing your lipstick to a delicious meal, I’m sure at least once in your life you have wondered how you can keep your lipstick from smudging, fading, or transferring.
It gets annoying having to manoeuvre your lips around food and drink glasses and stepping out of functions to quickly re-apply your lipstick.
There are a few wonderful tips you might not have considered that will change your lipstick game forever. Not only will they keep your lip colour looking gorgeously glam for hours on end in terms of pigmentation, but these tips will also help you with your application so you can achieve a perfectly precise and defined pout.
Prepping your lips for the most enviable pout
Before you grab your lip liners and lipsticks, you must prepare your lips for a smooth, stress-free application.
Use a lip scrub to gently exfoliate your lips. Moisturising crusty areas and clearing away dry flakes will ensure that your lipstick goes on smoothly and evenly without any product latching onto dry patches.
Follow up your lip scrub with a hydrating lip balm.
Primer without the primer
Ideally, the next step would be lip primer but if you don’t have one on hand, foundation or concealer works just as well as we’ve learned from YouTube beauty gurus like NikkieTutorials.
When you’re applying your face makeup, blot some foundation or concealer onto your lips to create an even base. This will leave a layer of product for your lipstick to adhere to, plus it will cancel out your natural lip colour to bring out the true colour intensity of your lipstick of choice.
Line your lips and fill in the blanks
Lip liner is a must. Not only does it define your lips, but it also enhances your lipstick, leaves a base for your lipstick to latch onto and prevents lipstick from bleeding outside the lines. Therefore, this helps with both longevity and definition.
Line and fill in your lips with a lip liner that complements your lipstick of choice.
Apply, blot, apply, set
Now that it’s time to apply your lipstick, apply the product carefully with a generous coating. Then, take a clean tissue and blot any excess colour off.
Once you have this base layer of lipstick, go back in and apply a second layer. Then, rest a clean tissue on-top of your lips and set your lips with a fine translucent powder.
Just like we set our liquid and cream foundations and concealers with powder, it’s strange that we don’t automatically think to set down a creamy lipstick!
When all else fails, waterproof
By far, the best formula for long-lasting makeup products is waterproof and the same applies to lipstick.
Find a waterproof lipstick as your ultimate fail safe.
Now all that’s left to do is pucker up and enjoy your kiss-proof lips!
