Chances are you’ve clicked onto this post for one of two reasons:
1. You’re genuinely want to know how to clean your makeup brushes properly.
Or 2. You haven’t cleaned your makeup brushes for months (if at all) and you’re thinking, “Oh yeah, I should probably do that!”
Beauty experts and makeup artists always go on about the importance of cleaning our makeup brushes. But do we reallyknow how clean them properly?
Here’s how to get your makeup brushes squeaky clean and ready to go for your best makeup application yet.
Before we begin, you will need:
Your dirty makeup brushes
Lukewarm water
Shampoo (A gentle clarifying or baby shampoo)
Cloth
Silicone brush cleaner (Optional)
Step one:
Lay out all of your makeup brushes to be cleaned and rinse off any excess makeup with lukewarm water.
Try to focus the water on the bristles rather than near the brush handle as you don’t want to loosen the glue that keeps your brushes intact.
Step two:
Apply a small amount of shampoo to the brush head and swirl it around the palm of your hand and rinse thoroughly. Keep doing this until the shampoo is white and the water runs clear.
Alternatively, swirl your brushes onto a silicone brush cleaner. The grooves will provide a more thorough clean.
Step three:
Squeeze any excess moisture out of your brushes and reshape the bristles with your fingers or a cloth to ensure that your brushes dry in the right shape and don’t become damaged.
Step four:
Lay your cleaned brushes down flat on a cloth or hard surface and let them air dry for a few hours.
Never let your brushes dry right side up as water can seep into the brush handle and melt away the glue that keeps your brushes together.
